Pool volume calculator
Estimate the water volume of a pool and the circulation flow needed for a chosen turnover time.
Assumptions
- Average depth is taken as the mean of the shallow and deep depths, which assumes a constant slope between them.
- Round pools use π × radius² × average depth. Oval pools are treated as an ellipse: π × (length ÷ 2) × (width ÷ 2) × average depth.
- Flow is volume ÷ turnover time. It is the average flow the filtration system must deliver, before any allowance for features.
Limitations
This is an estimate for early planning. It does not account for steps, benches, sumps, balance tanks, freeform shapes or water features, and it is not a hydraulic design. It does not recommend a pump: a pump can only be selected against its performance curve and the total head of the actual pipework, which your designer or contractor must check.
